Jack Mitchell is a man with a plan sounds like a really good way to start an entry on a blog, even if it has no meaning or grounding. He may have a plan, in fact I’m sure he does, but it did not involve self indulgent writers going round in circles. What jack actually has penciled in his plan is an exhibition starting this weekend, the 12th of December 2009. Probably one of the last chances to buy a wholesome Christmas present for people worth forking out for.

Everything is a mere fifty smackers and is a collection of portraits created in Mitchell’s own style. I feel honored to have him exhibiting and will try to get him in again.

There will be booze (for weak people), art (for the pretentious) & a great social situation (if you’re lonely). There is also the possibility of low res celebs and free lucky dip screenprints.

Oh and F*** THE WHITE BOARD may be there too so dress up.

I’ll confirm all of this soon.

EINE & ZEUS
Crimes and Punishments

27 NOVEMBER 2009 — 24 DECEMBER 2009

After making it past the bureaucratic guest list at Brighton’s humble Inkd gallery, I found myself bearing witness to a new idea, graffiti legends refining themselves into illustration. It was time to take a fresh look at the creative environment, where the letters RCA mean nothing more on your CV than another obscure abbreviation of unidentifiable genealogy. Education to these guys was something you just taught yourself.

Starting out painting murals on trains and changing street names to stay away from the attention of the police, the terrible two that are Eine & Zeus have now laid down their spray cans and made things a little smaller, and a little more subtle.

The premise of the Brighton show was crime & punishment, from which a blend of typography and illustration evolved. Each letter of the alphabet was represented, some more successfully than others. Zeus explained that it was more an experimental body of work than an exercise into traditional illustration.

The final outcomes were occasionally compositionally awkward, although this did add to their authenticity and was justified since the process was based on the children’s game consequences, with the results birthing from accident. ‘Crimes & Punishments’ runs until 24th December 2009 and is well worth a look.

This Saturday is the next exhibition, which will include the work of various Illustration/Graphic Design students from Brighton University. Hopefully we will get a big turn out as the hype & excitement seems big this month!

all you need is face final COLOUR

Sorry I have not touched base for a while but the next few posts shall be an expose (I do not have the energy to find an accent) on my happenings of late. I am obviously a self absorbed c***.

Here is a video I made to keep you warm, cheers to Josh for giving it his…..all.

Once again it is the time of month to thank everybody that attended the last exhibition at Artist Residence. We had Jimi Jugio fill our walls with work this time around and the night went swimmingly. The music was that of Micheal McLinn, who has a big harp on which he plays what i might call musical emotional satire (let me know if that is an awful description). I was impressed.

Pictures & movie to follow.

So the spanners are moving the cogs and it is time to tell you what is in the works. I have spoken to Fred Butler this evening who has a portfolio including work on La Roux’s Bulletproof music video. Jiggery Pokery have also finally emailed me back and would like to exhibit in the near future so it all seems a little proppy!

I am grateful to those who came to the opening night of the Pinky exhibition. It was a small space and everything was very cosy, even the Gong therapist found herself inundated with an abundance of curious artistic types. The spritely Half Sisters showed up and played an intriguing set in their own very naive style.

The atmosphere may have not been suitable for those of a squarer disposition, but fun was had by all.

The exhibition runs untill the 4th of September, so head down and ring the buzzer to be let in to the bizarre world of Artist Residence. If you would like to buy prints visit pinkyvision.com.

Photographs will follow.

I found out this morning that I have acquired a place at the AOI for the following months. It took some time and worked out ok in the end!

In my search to find the next artist at the gallery I bumped into Spanish illustrator Jimi Jugio on a rainy (and windy) Brightonian evening. I informed him of my role as the newly crowned creative directorr and with a dash of dubiousness he gave me his digits and we now have a possible event lined up for the 12th of August. Rather than giving you the tudoresque blurb about his background in true wiki documentation fashion I shall ask you to visit http://www.myspace.com/jimijugio and have a butchers at his work.

Many months ago I applied to work with the Association of Illustrators at their offices in London. I hit a brick wall straight away upon realisation that there were no places at that time. I received an email last week informing me of an interview on Tuesday so wish me good luck!
